One of the unsung regions of Spain, the DO of Carinena sits inland and to the west of Barcelona, in the province of Zaragoza. Production is based on a combination of native Spanish and international varieties and the climate is perfect for the production of well balanced, crisp styles with plenty of fruit. Grandes Vinos y Vinedas lives up to its name, with 4,000 hectares of vineyards spread over a variety of soils, aspects and altitudes, allowing for a wide range of different styles. The company is essentially a collection of co-operatives, making it the largest producer in the region. The head winemaker is Chilean born Marcelo Morales, who worked at Bodegas Carmen before completing a masters in oenology at the University of Madrid.
